As always with gear that cost alot of money its always inportant to protect your stuff. When travelling for over nighters around the country its often a good idea to take kayaks and canoes in for the night off your roof. Otherwise get yourself a good piece of steel rope you can run through the grab loops of boats and lock both ends inside your car. Always remember any kind of defences is the best way to put off a scum bag, if its gonna be difficult and complicated lets face it there not the smartest people on the planet by a long shot, so they are more likey to give up easier.

When on the river always lock away your valuables in a locked glove box or in the boot etc. Best idea is not to bring anything worth any value with you if your only gonna end up leaving it in the car. Never leave anything on display in a car, not even a cassette tape!

Always make sure the car is locked twice and Always bring a spare key. In the event you loose your own key on the river, even having the spare in the car ahide!, means you can break a window and drive home from "donegal"(or wherever) without having to be posted the spare Key.

When travelling aborad the best idea is to get a safety deposit box in the campsite or hostel your staying in never leave stuff in a bag in the dorm or under the mattress. Deposit boxes are often free or cheap and a great of ensuring the holiday doesnt end in disaster. When travelling to forigen countries where your passport is essential. It is often a good idea to bring photocopies of your passport and drivers licience.
